Last August 5, 2011, Ministry of Foreign Affairs published the new Regulations for Passport and Travel IDs. These new Regulations repeal old Regulations of 2002.
These Regulations are a natural consequence from new 42 security features of new Mexican passport implemented as from January 2008, which includes mechanical and biometrics security checks.
The main keys of these new Regulations are:
- Provides rules of passports for Mexican minors and adults.
- Provides rules for diplomatic passports for Mexican officers.
- Provides for travel IDs issued by Mexican Government in favor of foreign citizens that do not have nationality, their foreign authorities do not have an embassy or consulate, or are not able to issue a passport.
These Regulations is part of a package for protecting IDs and immigration into Mexico, jointly with new Immigration Law.
