Yesterday, the IFT, Mexican telecom regulator, published the Program for launching a tender on 2 geostationary orbital positions (GOP) with coverage on Mexican territory for fixed satellite service. Although, these GOP has continental reach, which could be upgraded under the Radio Regulations. The technical characteristics are:

As the telecom reform is being implemented, this tender is expected to happen in 2014. Satellite services become important as nodes for niche-based networks, isolated communities and additional capacity for DTH services, among others. This tender will sure bring on opportunities for satellite manufacturers trying to enter into the Mexican market.
